The Home of Blessing is a special place where love and the value of each person shows through. It provides day care for mentally and emotionally challenged youth and young adults, and has a “live-in” facility for those whose families need additional help. (47 KB)
Lily is a Christian who grew up during the Cultural Revolution in China (1966-1976). During that time all churches were closed, most Bibles and religious books were burned and Christians were under suspicion. (65 KB)
Lin Cang area church is located in an area notorious for drug and sex trafficking and for drug abuse. It has become active in drug and HIV/AIDS prevention education and outreach to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS. (59 KB)
The Microcredit program of the Amity Foundation helps to train women and build their confidence. Those who might not be able to read and write, learn to do so. All learn skills needed to set up and run their own little income generating projects for their families. After training, the women receive a loan of money to begin their projects and to earn additional money for their families. At the end of the six months, they repay their loans and keep their profit for their families.(66 KB)
Amity teachers are sent by their churches and come from many different countries around the world. The Amity Foundation, which has invited him to come and teach, was begun in 1985 by Chinese Christians leaders who wanted to find ways for Chinese believers to show God’s love in action, to cooperate with others and to help the disadvantaged people in their own land. Pastoral Care for Amity Teachers helps the teachers face the challenge of being the only foreigners and native English speakers in town. Amity teachers are sent by churches around the world to teach English in teacher training schools. Their students are the future English teachers for the rural secondary schools in China; good English language skills are important for admission to a university. (49 KB)
School-less is the story of a 14-year-old boy whose parents were poor and could not afford to send him to school. So the Amity Foundation provides funding to assist them. He started school at age 13 - in the first grade. (62 KB)
When Xia Huafu was a freshman, his classmates elected him their class leader. Afterwards, however, he tried to control all of the decisions for his classmates. He didn’t let them have a say in what they would do together. Soon, his classmates were angry with him and didn’t want him to be their leader any more, so the next semester they elected someone else instead. Xia Huafu was puzzled and hurt. He didn’t know what to do. (68 KB)
Xiao Lu is an orphan; his parents were very, very poor and they wanted to help their son. So, when some people who buy blood illegally came and told them they would give them money if they gave some blood, they thought they could help someone who was sick by giving blood, and they could help their son by making some money to pay for his school fees so that he could continue to go to school. Unfortunately the illegal blood buyers didn’t use sanitary means and many parents became infected with AIDS. His parents and thousands of others died of AIDS. (65 KB)
Xiao Wang, a talented musician, had gotten in with the wrong crowd. His so-called friends convinced him to try drugs, and before you knew it, drugs were controlling his life. He became HIV positive and his life seemed headed for total disaster. Now, he’s trying to change. He has been through a drug rehabilitation program and is trying to stay clean. Now as a part of the Garden of Love program (a project of the Amity Foundation), he is using his musical talents to teach others about the dangers of drug abuse. (65 KB)
