Dear friends,

News from the frontline:

This morning, Amity staff visited Penghua Village and Wolong village to distribute more emergency relief supplies, including 6.8 tons of oil, 1700 quilts. Other materials like water proof cloth and rice are being purchased. Villagers were quite surprised at the speedy action as the need assessment was only done yesterday in these two villages. Villagers took active part in the distribution by helping unloading the goods and putting up the Amity banner.

After the distribution in the two villages, Amity staff on the ground carried on to Pengzhou.

News at the Headquarters

Tonight, 42 boxes of powered milk, 18 boxes of napkins and 57 boxes of baby’s diapers will be transported to Chengdu and further on to the parents of the babies in the disaster inflicted areas. When Amity joins efforts with “xici.net” a famous web company in China and made the appeal for babies ‘supplies, many mothers responded by giving donations for the purchasing and transportation of necessities.

At the moment, a specialized counseling team consisting of 6 professors from Nanjing Nanjing University and Nanjing Normal University and 2 Amity staff is under hectic preparation before setting off to Mianzhu via Chengdu on Friday. All professors are from the Sociology or Social Work department and have strong background on social work and consoling.

Meanwhile, we are deeply moved that people are proving all kinds of connections to help Amity. Warm hearted people are providing recourses to help Amity to get free shipment of the underwear donated by a company in Shanghai, volunteers from schools and universities help Amity in outdoor fundraising at subway stations...... All these become a strong gear for the Amity staff to dedicate efforts to our fellow people in Sichuan.

Peace,

She Hongyu
